Future Tenses 1 – Will for Predictions and Future Events

  • Form:
    • Affirmative: will + verb
    • Negative: will not (won’t) + verb
    • Question: will … + verb?
  • We use “will”:
    • To make predictions, often based on opinions or past experiences:
      • Example: I think it’ll be extremely hot there.
    • To discuss future events that haven’t been arranged yet:
      • Example: We’ll probably stay in some sort of mountain lodge there.
    • For discussing future events or facts that are not personal:
      • Example: The best player on the tour will get a special trophy.
      • Example: The prime minister will open the debate in parliament tomorrow.
    • To talk about decisions made at the time of speaking:
      • Example: Tell me all about it, and I’ll pass on the information to the rest of the team.
  • “Will” is also used for making offers, promises, or suggestions.
