Future Tenses 2 – Present Simple for Future Meaning


Textual Material
  • The present simple can be used to indicate future time, especially for schedules or timetables:
    • Example: The conference only lasts three days.
    • Example: The train to the airport leaves in 20 minutes.
  • It’s also used after certain conjunctions (when, as soon as, after, before, until, as long as):
    • Example: I’ll feel really nervous when I get to Rome.
    • Example: Can you do it before we have the departmental meeting?
  • Note that other present tenses are also possible for future meanings.
